Steve Schroering is a highly skilled criminal defense attorney with over 25 years’ experience defending serious criminal cases across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He has successfully handled all types of criminal charges including many high-profile cases for his clients.
Steve Schroering graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1988 and began his career in criminal law as a prosecutor in the Jefferson County, Kentucky Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. During his eight years there, he successfully tried a number of cases including Robbery, Burglary, Rape, White Collar Theft, Child Abuse, Narcotics, Arson and Capital Murder. He was promoted to Division Chief, supervising a number of attorneys, and eventually was promoted to the Major Office Bureau, focusing on complex litigation and capital offenses. He was named Jefferson County Prosecutor of the year in 1991.
Schroering next became an Assistant Attorney General with the Special Prosecutions Unit of the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office. While there he traveled throughout the state prosecuting conflict cases including charges of Narcotics, Trafficking, Rape, White Collar crime, Election Fraud and Political Corruption.
In 1996, Schroering opened his private practice focused solely on criminal defense. Since that time, he has successfully defended thousands of cases ranging from DUI and Theft to Robbery, Burglary and Murder. In 1997, he was awarded the first Frank Haddad award for criminal defense. In 2012, he was named to the Top Lawyers List as voted by peers, Louisville Magazine. Between 2000 and 2010 he was an adjunct professor with the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, teaching 3rd year law students Trial Practice and Skills. He has conducted and lectured across the state for attorneys in the areas of jury selection, evidence law, trial strategy, case preparation, forensics and ethics. He is a member of the Louisville Bar Association, Kentucky Bar Association, Citizens for Better Judges and is licensed in State and Federal Court.
